An Oxford shoe is a style of handmade leather shoe that usualy has enclosed lacing. Traditionally Oxford shoes are constructed of quality leather and were rather plain. The oxford shoes originally appeared in Ireland and Scotland, where they are often called Balmorals. The shoe design is often plain, but may include some small perforations or ornamentation.

The Oxfrod shoe can be made from a variety of different leathers for different situations, ranging from formal evening shoes of patent leather, to daytime shoes. These shoes are most commonly brown or black , and may be brogued. The toes can be plain or capped. Some leathers, such as patterned leathers or suede, and brown leather, arenot as formal, while other styles, such as black leather, are more formal. Features of comparable formality are traditionally combined making combinations such as 'black full brogue' or 'plain capless suede' unorthodox innovations. More unusal colours and leathers are sometimes seen, like purple or red, and crocodile skin.

The meaning of the terms Oxford and Balmoral vary, in the United States Balmoral is synonymous with Oxford, elsewhere, especially in the UK, the Balmoral is a particular type of Oxford where there are no seams descending to the welt, a style particularly common on boots as well as shoes.
